Legrand acquires VASS, cites booming data centre market

Manufacturing News

Electrical equipment manufacturer Legrand has announced the acquisition of Busway power distribution solution business VASS Electrical Industries.

French-based Legrand Group announced the finalisation of the aquisition in a statement on Wednesday. It said its existing electrical and digital building infrastructure products were complementary to VASS’s business, enabling a “wider and comprehensive offering to customers”.

VASS was established in 1958, employs 35 and is based at south-western Sydney’s Ingleburn. It has “a strong focus on the fast-growing data centre market, as well as commercial and infrastructure segments”.

Palash Nandy, CEO at Legrand ANZ – which has a local headquarters in Prestons, Sydney – said the acquisition of VASS and New Zealand mechanical support systems business in December demonstrated their focus on growing their manufacturing footprint.

“We are thrilled to welcome and work with the team at VASS,” said Nandy.

“I’m confident that our combined  market strengths and complementary solutions will improve the lives of our customers and  accelerate their electrical, digital infrastructure and sustainability goals.”

The leased data centre sector of the data centre industry anticipated to see annual compound growth of 15 per cent in revenues in the next three years, said Legrand, with data centres one of the company’s fastest growing segments globally.

Legrand Australia distributes electrical and digital infrastructure solutions under six brands, with these now joined by VASS. Manufacturing at Prestons represents 40 per cent of Legrand Australia’s revenue.
