Detmold Ventures backs European packaging merger






The venture arm of Australian packaging manufacturer Detmold Group has backed the merger of two leading European producers of cups and cardboard takeaway packaging.

Detmold Ventures’ investment facilitated the merger of CUPSZ and De Jong Ecocups which have come together under the CUPSZ brand.

The two Netherlands based companies share a common approach to quality, innovation, fast delivery, small runs, and personalised attention, according to a statement.

“This new partnership will allow product range expansion, increased operational efficiencies and increased production volume, supported by the investment and expertise of Detmold Group affiliate Detmold Ventures.”

Detmold Group manufactures bags, carry bags, wraps, trays, cups, napkins and cartons at its manufacturing facilities located in seven countries, supplying businesses including McDonald’s and Subway.

Based in Adelaide, Detmold is a family company that operates the DetPak, PaperPak and Detmold Medical businesses which came to prominence during the Covid-19 pandemic for its rapid ramp up of surgical face mask manufacturing.

Detmold Ventures and Cup & Carry Chief Executive Officer Zoe Detmold (pictured, below) said the international collaboration would provide a unique opportunity for knowledge exchange between all parties.

Detmold said: “Through our investment and support, we are confident that Cupsz can make an even greater impact on the market, and we can support them with our innovation, manufacturing expertise and global supply chain.”

De Jong Ecocups founder John Holster, who will continue to be responsible for the daily operations of the De Lier production plant, said that by using each other’s resources effectively, it would enable growth while also learning from Detmold Ventures.

Holster said: “This collaboration demonstrates a joint commitment to innovation and growth,

“With De Jong Ecocups and the investment from Detmold Ventures, we can realise our joint ambitions to serve our customers better and strengthen our market position in Europe.”
